Kanagawa » Yokohama Motomachi, Yokohama Chinatown » Yokohama
The symbol of Yokohama Chinatown, this shrine is a Chinese shrine of business prosperity.
The orange roof and gaudy decorations make the temple stand out even in Chinatown.
Most of the building materials were imported from China, and carpenters from China constructed the building. The roofs, pillars, and ceilings are decorated with detailed carvings.
The main deity is Guan Yu, famous in the “Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” and other deities such as Kannon Bosatsu (Goddess of Mercy) are also enshrined here.
When entering the main shrine, visitors must purchase incense and gold paper at the reception desk.
This is a rare opportunity to experience Chinese culture by burning money and offering long sticks of incense.
The temple is also worth seeing when illuminated at night.
