The Minato Mirai area straddles the Nishi and Naka wards of Kanagawa Prefecture and faces the beautiful ocean. The area has an excellent landscape design and was selected as one of the 100 best urban landscapes in 1997 by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Urban Landscape Award Judging Committee.
Major tourist attractions to visit in Minato Mirai include the Yokohama Landmark Tower, NYK Hikawamaru, and the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse. Yamashita Park, Osanbashi Bridge, Anpanman Children's Museum & Mall, Yokohama Cosmo World, and Nogeyama Zoo are also places to enjoy.
Yokohama Landmark Tower is the skyscraper representing Minato Mirai, with 70 floors above ground and a height of 296 meters. The Landmark Tower houses offices, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, and other facilities, and attracts many visitors on weekdays and holidays.
The "Sky Garden," an observation deck on the 69th floor, is especially popular as a date place for couples, as it can be enjoyed at night.
NYK Hikawamaru, a cargo and passenger ship built in 1930, was 163.3 meters in length, making it one of the largest ships of its time. The ship was struck by lightning three times during the Pacific War but did not sink, making it valuable as the only cargo ship still in existence. It is designated as a tangible cultural property by the City of Yokohama, and is moored at the Port of Yokohama in front of Yamashita Park for public viewing.
The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, a bonded warehouse built in 1911, played an important role as a hub for overseas trade, and in 1992, Yokohama City acquired and restored the red brick warehouse in conjunction with the development of Yokohama Minato Mirai 21. Today, it is a popular place to enjoy exhibitions, events, shopping, and gastronomy.
