This urban park, which covers almost the entire area of Kannonzaki jutting out into Tokyo Bay, makes the most of its rich natural environment, including a forest of evergreen foliage and seashore rocky shorelines.
There is an “Athletic Forest” with athletic playground equipment, “Uminoko-de” with rope playground equipment, a forest lodge, and an observatory, where visitors can enjoy both ocean and mountain activities, such as swimming and playing on the seashore, and hiking and forest bathing on the hillsides covered with foliage trees.
The park also has cultural facilities such as the Yokosuka Art Museum and the Kannonzaki Nature Museum, and the Kannonzaki Lighthouse, which can be toured inside, offers a panoramic view of ships sailing along the Uraga Channel and the Boso Peninsula on the opposite shore.
Before World War II, the area was a military fortification and off-limits to the public, and the ruins of a gun emplacement still remain as a reminder of those days.
