With a collection of approximately 10,000 pieces of modern Western paintings, including Impressionist paintings centering on Monet and Renoir, Ecole de Paris, and 20th century paintings, it is known as one of the largest collections of Impressionist paintings in Japan.
Located in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, the POLA Museum of Art opened in 2002 under the concept of “Hakone, Nature and Art in Harmony.
The museum’s collection includes Western paintings, Japanese Western and Japanese paintings, prints, sculptures, Oriental ceramics, Japanese modern and contemporary ceramics, glass art, and cosmetic tools.
Western paintings from the 19th century onward and modern Japanese paintings are particularly important, and three of the museum’s five galleries are devoted to these paintings. The remaining two rooms are devoted to oriental ceramics, glass art, and cosmetic tools.
The collection of Western paintings includes works by Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, van Gogh, and Picasso. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum also conducts promotional activities through various special exhibitions, lectures, and gallery talks.
Taking advantage of the museum’s location, a 670-meter-long wooden path “Wind Playing Walkway” has been established in the forest, where visitors can see beech trees and himeshara oak trees.
