The temple is known as a bamboo temple because of the beautiful bamboo grove consisting of approximately 2,000 moso bamboo trees on the temple grounds.
The large bamboo grove, refined in the Kyoto style, is decorated with stone lanterns and red lantern umbrellas, which accentuate the green of the moso bamboo and create a relaxing atmosphere.
At the “Kyuko-an” tea house, visitors can enjoy powdered green tea and dry confections while gazing at the bamboo grove.
The temple is said to have been founded in 1334 by the founder of the temple.
The Ashikaga clan’s burial mound is located on a rock at the back of the temple grounds.
